Rs 41.96L public money spent

BHUBANESWAR: The state government has spent Rs 41.96 lakh public money in the case pertaining to row over membership disqualification of four NCP legislators, who joined the ruling BJD, information obtained using the Right to Information (RTI) Act revealed.

The government paid Rs 37.63 lakh to three advocates, spent Rs 3.99 lakh on airfare of officials, attending the case, and Rs 34,000 as their conveyance allowance as on April 24, the RTI revelation said. One Bikram Kumar Swain had sought the information on April 17. More

All co-ops under one Act

BHUBANESWAR: The state cabinet, chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, on Tuesday decided to repeal Orissa Self-Help Cooperatives Act, 2001, by promulgating an ordinance.

“The decision aims at bringing all the cooperatives societies in the state under Orissa Cooperative Act, 1962,” said chief secretary B K Patnaik after the meet. He said the decision would bring as many as 1,634 self-help cooperative societies, now operating in the state under the Self-Help Cooperative Act, under one umbrella. The societies will have to amend their bylaws according to Orissa Cooperative Act within three months, the chief secretary said. The move comes at a time when several non-banking financial companies, including cooperative credit societies, have been found embroiled in misappropriation of depositors’ money. More
